From the very beginning of the Syrian uprising in 2011, when cities were crumbling and families torn apart, the hands of a group of determined Syrians—both inside the country and abroad—became a symbol of hope and resistance. These hands, united by shared pain and unwavering love for their people, reached out to communities trapped under siege, hunger, and displacement.

What started as a simple initiative of volunteers quickly grew into a movement driven by these hands, these stories, these lives. By September 2014, this movement became Swa’adna Al-Souria Organization (SAO)—an organization born from the very hands of those who had endured the hardships of war.

SAO focused its efforts where the need was greatest:

• The besieged neighborhoods of Eastern Ghouta.
• The towns of Beit Sahim, Babbila, and Yelda.
• The struggling community of Yarmouk camp.
• And the war-torn Al-Wa’ar neighborhood in Homs.

With limited resources but limitless courage, SAO’s hands brought food to hungry families, opened classrooms for children who had lost years of education, provided psychosocial support to heal invisible wounds, empowered women to reclaim their strength, and supported local health and livelihood projects. Each action was a stitch in the fabric of survival, resilience, and hope.

In December 2016, SAO formalized its mission by registering in Turkey, strengthening its foundations with clear policies and skilled teams both inside Syria and abroad.

Yet, when forced displacement swept through between 2017 and 2018, scattering the communities and staff SAO served, the organization’s hands did not falter. They reached out once more, this time in northern Syria—across Aleppo countryside, Azaz, Afrin, Al-Bab, and Ariha in Idlib—carrying with them the same spirit and commitment.

In these new areas, SAO rebuilt its presence, expanding teams with local youth and returning volunteers, continuing to deliver education, protection, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, and relief.

With hope and passion fueling our mission, Swaadna Humanitarian Organization (SHO) proudly completed its official registration in New Syria following the liberation of lovely Syria . This new beginning marks a powerful chapter in our journey, enabling us to deepen our commitment to the recovery and rebuilding of communities long affected by conflict. With formal recognition, SHO is energized to expand its programs, forge stronger local partnerships, and provide vital support to the people of New Syria as they rebuild their lives and look toward a brighter, more hopeful future.

Today, our hands are still our story —a story of resilience, solidarity, and hope. Through the continued work of the SHO, these hands build communities, restore dignity, and light the way forward, even in the darkest times.
