Protection
The Protection Program of SHO is designed to safeguard the rights and well-being of children, adolescents, and vulnerable individuals affected by armed conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crises in Syria. The program focuses on preventing and responding to child protection concerns, while also promoting psychosocial well-being, education access, and family and community
Program Objectives:
- Child Protection: Safeguard children from recruitment, child labor, and early marriage by supporting access to education, facilitating school reintegration, conducting awareness campaigns for caregivers, providing educational sponsorships, and promoting sustainable economic alternatives for families.
- Psychosocial Well-being of Children and Adolescents: Strengthen the mental health and psychosocial resilience of children and youth through structured psychosocial support programs, capacity building for staff, the establishment of safe spaces for children and adolescents, and life-skills development programs tailored to their needs.
- Women’s Protection and Empowerment: Prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV) by empowering women economically, psychologically, and socially. This includes vocational training, health-related awareness sessions (such as reproductive health), parental skills development, and mental health support programs.
- Community Engagement in Protection: Promote community-based protection approaches by involving local communities in planning, implementing, and monitoring protection activities, thereby fostering ownership, accountability, and sustainability of interventions.
Key Activities:
- Establishing safe spaces for children and adolescents to provide a protective environment for learning, recreation, and psychosocial support.
- Providing psychosocial support services for children affected by conflict and natural disasters to strengthen resilience and emotional well-being.
- Delivering life-skills training for adolescents, equipping them with tools for positive decision-making, conflict resolution, and resilience.
- Training staff on psychosocial support and child protection principles, ensuring frontline workers are equipped to provide appropriate care and safeguard children’s rights.
- Mainstreaming protection across all programs, particularly in education, to ensure that safety, dignity, and inclusion are prioritized in all interventions.
- Creating safe spaces for women and girls, where they can access support services, participate in empowerment activities, and build social networks.
- Conducting protection training, with a focus on prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV), to strengthen awareness, referral pathways, and community-level response.
