Swaad’na

Who We Are?

Swa’adna Humanitarian Organization (SHO): is a non-governmental, non-profit, independent civil society organization offering development and relief projects, so it contributes to meet the basic humanitarian needs of Syrians inside Syria and in countries of asylum (in and out of Syria). The organization works in war and emergency situations and targets vulnerable groups of society, especially women and children.

Our slogan: participation is a responsibility, towards a self-managed society….

We, Swa’adna Humanitarian Organization (SHO), believe that building a society respecting the rights of human beings, and their freedom and dignity, is achieved only with the active participation of all members of society in political, economic and social decision-making processes, hence, we work to empower and support local communities, especially rural and marginalized ones. (Deprived of development), so that in the future, societies can benefit efficiently and effectively from their own resources (human and economic) “and contribute to the decision-making process through their genuine representatives at the State level.

We recognize that any future development process for local communities cannot take place without individuals who have the scientific and practical competence to participate in development projects that serve their communities and lead them.

Also, we trust that if the Segments of society were marginalized, there would not be any development process at all, but development efforts must be inclusive of all.

Overview of the organization’s history

As an initiative of a group of Syrian individuals (inside and outside Syria), our Swa’adna Humanitarian Organization (SHO), began working to aid areas under calamity from the beginning of the 2011 Syrian uprising.
in September 2014, the initiative turned out to become an organization. their activities were concentrated in four geographical sectors where civilians suffered from the conditions of siege and war (Damascus rural governorate: Eastern Ghouta, and towns such as Beit Sahim, Bibla, Yelda, Damascus city/Yarmouk camp, and Homs/Al-Wa’ar neighborhood).
In these areas, the organization provided many projects in more than one sector/ field: relief for poor families, education and psychosocial support for children, women’s empowerment, health projects, livelihood, as well as community political participation.
The organization was registered in Turkey in December 2016. So, team members in Turkey began developing the organization’s internal policies and procedures and building the capacity of the organization’s teams in Turkey and Syria.
After the organization’s targeted areas were exposed for gradually forcibly displacement between 2017 and 2018, the organization’s operating cadres were transferred to northern Syria (rural Aleppo, Idlib).
The organization’s activities moved to Aleppo governorate (al -Bab, Azaz, Afrin), and Idlib governorate (Ariha).
The organization managed to resume its activities and expanded its teams in Syria to include part of the former teams in addition to young men and women from the new areas to which it moved. In current areas of operation, the organization offers/ support education and protection projects for children, livelihoods, women’s empowerment and relief.
